Iron Mountain opens second renewable energy data center in Phoenix

by Kali Persall

Data storage company Iron Mountain Inc. has cut the ribbon on its second data center facility in Phoenix just a year after breaking ground.

The company announced the grand opening of the state-of-the-art data center on Aug. 15, noting the three-story facility is scalable, hyperscale-ready and powered by 100 percent renewable energy. It will span more than 530,000 gross square feet and deliver 48 megawatts of total IT capacity with full build-out.

The first phase of capacity at AZP-2 provides 4 megawatts of concurrently maintainable power capacity, with the ability to serve both multitenant enterprise retail co-location, as well as hyperscale requirements.

The 40-acre Phoenix campus is expected to support more than 100 megawatts of IT load and provide energy-efficient data capacity in one of the lowest-risk metros for natural disasters in the United States.

The company’s global data center platform consists of 14 operational facilities across 13 markets and three continents, according to Iron Mountain. The platform can support more than 350 megawatts of IT capacity at full build-out.
