Massachusetts General Hospital has plans for a $1 billion expansion of its facilities in downtown Boston.
The project is considered the largest ever proposed by a hospital in the state, according to The Boston Globe.
The hospital intends to build a new clinical and patient service building, totaling 1.04 million square feet spanning up a pair of connecting 12-story towers. The new clinical building will include approximately 450 new beds, all in single rooms. And it will also include six stories of underground parking (comprising 1,100 spaces), as well as a cancer center and heart center.
Once approved, construction is expected to begin in 2020 and be completed in 2026.
