Where is the offshore wind industry headed in 2024?

What is the state of the offshore wind industry? In which direction is it headed? How fast will it get “there”? What’s slowing it down, and who is speeding it up?

These are some the questions addressed in a recent article from Renewables Now in which analysts sifted through data from Esgian’s wind analytics platform and came out with a list of 10 predictions for the future of the offshore wind sector.

Three of the 10 projections are picked apart in detail below, including the possibility of a renaissance for near-term U.S. projects, the dominance of Asian manufacturing in the wind sector and Italy’s permitting problems (which optimists hope will be alleviated soon).

The United States actively has been seeking to create an offshore wind industry, and has found some success, but also significant challenges. Most recently, Ørsted’s withdrew from its Ocean Wind 1 and Ocean Wind 2 projects off the coast of New Jersey in November 2023.
