TRIG buys shovel-ready onshore wind farm from Swedish utility

The Renewables Infrastructure Group (TRIG) has purchased Gronhult, a 67.2-megawatt shovel-ready onshore wind farm in southwest Sweden, from Swedish utility Vattenfall.

Construction will begin in second quarter 2021, with the wind farm coming online in the fourth quarter of 2022. Vattenfall will also manage the construction process.

“We are pleased to expand our presence in Sweden with high quality partners,” said Richard Crawford, director of infrastructure at InfraRed Capital Partners, TRIG’s adviser. “The Nordic region represents a key market for the company with a strong pipeline and favorable economics for onshore wind.”

TRIG said the project is expected to benefit from increasing electricity demand through greater electrification of transport and the expansion of other energy intensive industries such as data centers in and around Stockholm and Gothenburg, Sweden.
