Southern Power wins concession for two solar and energy-storage projects in California

U.S. wholesale energy provider Southern Power has secured two 20-year power-purchase agreements from Southern California Edison (SCE).

Under the terms of the contract, Southern Power will add battery-based energy storage at both Southern Power’s Tranquillity Solar Facility and Garland Solar Facility in California. These will be two of the first co-located solar and storage projects operating in the California market, according to Bill Grantham, president of Southern Power.

The projects will contribute 88 megawatts of energy storage at the Garland Solar Facility in Kern County and 72 megawatts to the Tranquillity Solar Facility in Fresno County.
