Quinbrook breaks ground on U.K.’s largest consented solar-plus-battery storage project

Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners has broken ground on Cleve Hill, the largest consented solar-plus-battery storage project in the United Kingdom.

With 373 megawatts of solar and more than 150 megawatts of battery storage, Cleve Hill is expected to generate enough renewable power to meet the needs of more than 100,000 U.K. homes and reduce carbon emissions by 164,450 tonnes each year. The project is located in Kent.

In May 2020, the U.K. Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) granted development consent for the Cleve Hill solar project. According to Quinbrook, it was the first project of its kind to be approved as a “nationally significant infrastructure project.”
