Ørsted’s Hornsea Project 4 offshore wind farm project receives green light to move foward

The U.K. government has granted a development consent order (DCO) for the Hornsea Project 4 offshore wind farm application, moving the project forward.

Hornsea Four is an offshore wind farm that Ørsted is proposing to develop in the North Sea, located approximately 69 kilometers (43 miles) off the Yorkshire Coast. The project is located within the western area of the former Hornsea known as Zone 4.

The project has been in the works for some time. In August 2015, Ørsted acquired the rights to develop the Hornsea zone from SMart Wind, which was originally awarded the zone in The Crown Estate Round 3 bid process. In September 2021, the application was submitted to the planning inspectorate for consideration Ørsted Hornsea Project Four, and it was accepted for examination the following month.
