As emission reduction programs pick up against the wider backdrop of the energy transition, infrastructure investors can expect investment opportunities in renewables and digital infrastructure, as well as closer partnerships with governments, according to a new report released by IFM Investors.
The report, Resilience and Transition: Infrastructure Outlook, notes that although the longer-term impacts of geopolitical instability remain uncertain, decarbonization efforts are expected to accelerate. Emissions targets set by global governments and businesses are intensifying pressure on infrastructure investors to decarbonize their portfolios, but are also creating opportunities for new investment into renewables, electrification and low-carbon fuels that supports the energy transition, states the report. Key areas to watch will be alternative energy sources and digital infrastructure such as telecommunication towers, data centers and fiber networks.
