Ocasio-Cortez offers ‘Green New Deal’ plan for switch to renewable energy

by Andrea Zander

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., have plans to unveil their “Green New Deal,” a 10-year plan to create a greenhouse gas neutral society that creates unprecedented levels of prosperity and wealth for all while ensuring economic and environmental justice and security.

The resolution aims to cut carbon emissions across the economy, from electricity generation to transportation to agriculture. In the process, it aims to create jobs and boost the economy.

The ultimate goal is to stop using fossil fuels entirely as well as to transition away from nuclear energy.

The resolution can be read here.

In addition, the framework is described in a blog post and "FAQs" from Ocasio-Cortez’s office.
