MPC Energy Solutions enters Guatemalan market with solar PPA

MPC Energy Solutions (MPCES) has made its foray into Guatemala after signing a long-term power-purchase agreement (PPA) with Comercializadora de Energía Para el Desarrollo, a subsidiary of Ingenio Magdalena (IMSA Group), for a planned solar photovoltaic (PV) project.

The project will have an installed capacity of 65 megawatts. Development of the project will begin immediately, and MPCES is expecting to start construction in 12 months.

IMSA Group, which processes 6.5 million tons of sugarcane per year, is the largest private energy producer in Guatemala, supplying 8 percent of the country’s total energy consumption. MPC Energy Solutions, which is planning to expand its operations across Latin America and the Caribbean, now has projects under development, construction or operation in eight countries across the region. This new project, the largest secured PPA of MPCES to date, demonstrates the growing private corporate PPA demand in Central America.
