Macquarie’s GIG and consortium to bid on offshore wind in Norway

by Kali Persall

Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG) has partnered with Norwegian energy companies Vårgrønn and Agder Energi to develop up to 3 gigawatts of offshore wind in Norway’s Sørlige Nordsjø II area.

The consortium is expected to bid for a site in this zone, one of two areas the Norwegian government has opened to licensing for offshore wind, according to various news reports.

“Being one of the most promising countries for offshore wind in the world, we are fully committed to participating in Norway’s upcoming licensing round,” said Edward Northam, head of GIG Europe. “We are excited to team up with Agder Energi and Vårgrønn in establishing a strong offshore wind consortium for Sørlige Nordsjø II.”

GIG will take a 25 percent stake in the consortium, with Vårgrønn and Agder Energi each owning a 37.5 percent stake. Vårgrønn will serve as project manager.
