by Kali Persall

Lightsource bp has broken ground on the first utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) project in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the southernmost island country in the Caribbean.

According to PVTech, the 148-megawatt project is owned by Shell Renewables Caribbean and bp Alternative Energy Trinidad and Tobago. The project is split between two sites and will generate an expected 300,000 megawatt hours of power each year.

Lightsource bp is handling construction, with Grupotec Servicios Avanzados and SDV West Indies to take over the operations and maintenance (O&M) contracts.
