Illinois SURS pours $50m into infrastructure, seeks new executive director

by Kali Persall

The State Universities Retirement System has approved a $50 million commitment to Ember Infrastructure Partners Fund I, according to a recent investment document.

Ember Infrastructure is a private equity platform delivering capital solutions to middle-market businesses and assets that contribute to reduced carbon intensity and enhanced resource efficiency. The firm’s target sectors include energy transition, water, waste, and industrials and agriculture.

In other business, SURS said it hired search firm Heidrick & Struggles to administer the recruitment process for an executive director. Martin Noven, the former executive director of SURS, resigned in February. Chief benefits officer Suzanne Mayer has been acting interim executive director since that time.
