Iberdrola makes foray into Ireland’s offshore wind market

Iberdrola has entered the offshore wind market in Ireland, as part of an effort to expand its global renewable energy footprint.

Iberdrola has acquired a majority stake in DP Energy's 3-gigawatt offshore wind pipeline, which consists of projects located in three clusters on the east, west and south coasts of the country, for an undisclosed amount. The projects include the Inis Ealga wind farm on the south coast of County Cork, the Clarus project on the west coast of County Clare and the Shelmalere project off the east coast. According to Iberdrola, some of the projects will be eligible for the offshore auctions between 2025 and 2030.

Upon commencing operations, the projects will generate enough green energy to power the equivalent of 2.6 million households.
