Global pension fund investment dips in Q4 2022

Global pension fund investment saw a significant decline by the fourth quarter of 2022, compared with other years, according to a report from S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Pension fund sponsors were involved in $5.01 billion worth of disclosed transactions in the fourth quarter of the year, an 83.5 percent decrease year-over-year. In 2022, pension fund sponsors were involved in deals totaling $26.8 billion, compared with a $105.57 billion in 2021.

The top two transactions of the year involved Canada's Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board (OTPP). The largest deal — OTPP’s acquisition of a 25-percent stake in Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission — was valued at $1.78 billion. The deal
