Eneos scraps Japanese refinery, builds solar plant at site

by Kali Persall

Japanese oil company Eneos has plans to build an 8.5-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) plant at the site of a refinery in Wakayama, a Japanese prefecture in the Kansai region.

The plant will be constructed on unused land at the refinery, which is due to be shut down by October 2023, according to multiple news sources. Electricity generated by the plant will be sold to Kansai Transmission and Distribution.

The plant will break ground in mid-September, with operations expected to start in August 2023.
