EDF Renewables U.K. has unveiled plans to develop a 114-megawatt battery-energy storage system (BESS) in England.
The BESS will be located south of the Norwich substation between Dunston and Swainsthorpe.
EDF Renewables U.K. is currently carrying out environmental and technical assessments and is undertaking a public consultation about the proposal before it submits a planning application to South Norfolk Council in 2023.
“As more of our lives are powered by electricity — from heating to cars — our energy system is changing,” said Martin Cole, director of planning at EDF Renewables U.K.’s storage and private wire division. “Batteries help to future-proof the grid and cost-effectively integrate more renewable power. Having more of our electricity generated renewably from homegrown sources will lead to lower bills and greater energy security.”
