Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ (CIP) flagship funds have secured nearly 1,300 square kilometers (502 square miles) of seabed in Australia to progress two offshore wind projects.
Securing two licenses under Australia’s first offshore wind feasibility license process, CIP has gained site exclusivity to develop offshore wind projects throughout two areas — one of which is 586 square kilometers (226 square miles) and the other 689 square kilometers (266 square miles). The two projects have the potential to deliver up to 4.4 gigawatts of combined capacity — enough to power 2.4 million homes.
In concurrence with the license awards, CIP also has launched a new platform company, Southerly Ten, which is dedicated to the specialist development and delivery of offshore wind projects in Australia.
Southerly Ten will lead the development and delivery of CIP’s Australian offshore wind portfolio, including its first two projects — Star of the South and Kut-Wut
