by Kali Persall

Blackstone Energy Partners has sold a 42 percent stake in Cheniere Energy Partners to Brookfield Infrastructure and funds managed by Blackstone Infrastructure Partners.

Last month, Brookfield and Blackstone Infrastructure Partners agreed to jointly acquire the minority stake in Cheniere Energy Partners in Louisiana for some $7 billion.

Cheniere Energy Partners is the largest LNG producer in the United States and the second-largest LNG operator in the world, according to the company’s website. Cheniere’s LNG has reached dozens of markets on five continents.

In 2012 Blackstone Energy Partners and its affiliates invested $1.5 billion in Cheniere Energy Partners to build the first two liquefaction trains at the Sabine Pass LNG facility in Louisiana.

Sabine Pass was the first LNG export facility in the lower 48 states, providing a critical link between North American gas producers
