BIG raises additional £150m to invest in U.K. biomass and waster energy assets

The Bioenergy Infrastructure Group (BIG) has raised an additional £150 million ($196 million) from three companies to invest in new U.K. biomass and waste to energy assets.

The additional investments were made by three companies: Infracapital, Helios Energy Investments and Aurium Capital Markets. The new investments bring the collective funding to more than £600 million ($785 million) since the company was established in 2015.

Since its start, BIG has funded its original capital at £200 million ($262 million) in the funding of two projects, which include Ince Bio Power, a 21.5-megawatt waste biomass plant at Protos, Cheshire and Energy Works Hull, a 25-megawatt plant on a 7.5-acre industrial site in Hull, East Yorkshire.

In addition, Aurium has acquired the equity stake held Foresight Group, co-founder of BIG. However, Foresight will remain a key stakeholder in the business.
