Arkansas Teacher Retirement System (ATRS) has plans to commit up to $50 million to EnCap Energy Transition Fund II (EETF II), managed by energy-focused private equity firm EnCap Investments.
EETF II is a $2 billion real asset fund focused primarily on creating new companies to pursue the development of low-carbon energy infrastructure in North America. According to recent board meeting minutes from ATRS, the fund has a hard cap of $2.5 billion.
EETF II will primarily seek to decarbonize the power sector through established renewable technologies. The fund will make control investments in eight to 12 portfolio companies, each requiring $50 million to $400 million of fund equity.
In recent months, the vehicle collected investments from the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, Alaska Permanent Fund Corp. and the Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund.
