Alternative investment activity among institutional investors spikes

Global allocators added $144 billion to alternatives in 2022, according to a recent report commissioned by Vidrio Financial.

The report examined more than 1,000 investor mandates to understand how leading strategic allocators are targeting alternative investments.

The pace of allocations accelerated from 2021, when Alternatives Watch’s second annual compendium tracked a total of $130 billion in new capital across more than 900 individual institutional investor mandates from 50 of the top alternative allocators. New capital alternative allocations in 2022 jumped to $144 billion, an increase of more than 10 percent across more than 1,000 individual mandates. In this third edition of the compendium, there was an increase in investor interest across infrastructure and real asset strategies to the tune of $6.9 billion and $4.9 billion, respectively.
