Wessex Internet, a portfolio company of abrdn Infrastructure fund, has secured two additional contracts for £52.3 million ($66 million) as part of the U.K. government’s Project Gigabit, bringing its total secured funding to £72 million ($91 million).
Project Gigabit is the U.K. government’s flagship £5 billion ($6.3 billion) program that aims to provide gigabit-capable broadband to hard-to-reach communities across the United Kingdom. These latest contracts will allow Wessex Internet to roll out its full-fiber broadband network to approximately 36,000 homes and businesses in rural and remote areas in South Wiltshire, Dorset and South Somerset, England.
The award of South Wiltshire and Dorset and South Somerset contracts mark the third and fourth Project Gigabit contracts awarded to Wessex Internet, respectively, following the award of the North Dorset contract in 2022 and the New Forest contract in 2023.
