Qatar’s first solar power plant, the 800-megawatt Al-Kharsaa project, has been connected to the grid at full capacity.

Located to the west of Doha, over an area of 10 square kilometers (x square miles), the Al-Kharsaa project was developed by a consortium consisting of Total and Marubeni. All of the modules were provided by LONGi, a major Chinese manufacturer of photovoltaic solar modules and a developer of solar power projects.

Equipped with LONGi Hi-MO 4 bifacial modules and a tracking system, the plant is the world's largest photovoltaic project to combine these two elements.

The project is expected to provide an annual 1.8 billion kilowatt hours of clean energy, meeting the electricity consumption of some 300,000 households and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 900,000 tons.

“We are honored to assist Qatar in developing this landmark project, and fully support the country's commitment to carbon neutrality,” said Jia Chao, president of
