$641m construction contract awarded for interstate project in Texas

The Texas Transportation Commission has selected Lone Star Constructors, a consortium consisting of Fluor Heavy Civil and Austin Bridge & Road, as the design-build contractor for the Interstate 35E (I-35E) Phase II Project.

The $641.6 million construction contract will rebuild and widen 6.39 miles of I-35E from I-635 to the Denton County line. The contract also includes a $13.2 million optional maintenance agreement, to be implemented at the discretion of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

The I-35E Phase II project is part of a statewide initiative to address the most congested areas in Texas. TxDOT first began its comprehensive review and planning study of the I-35E corridor in Dallas and Denton counties in 1998. In 2011 and 2012, TxDOT received environmental clearance for the $4.8 billion project. An additional $1 billion in funding was identified for an initial phase of the project, with most coming from SH 121 regional toll revenue funds dedicated
