$1t infrastructure bill passes in Senate, moves to House

by Kali Persall

The U.S. Senate has passed a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill after months of negotiations, with an overwhelming vote in favor at 69-30.

This would be the largest federal investment into infrastructure projects in more than a decade, according to The New York Times, and proposes to rebuild deteriorating infrastructure and fund new climate resilience and broadband initiatives.

The initial infrastructure plan was for an investment of $2.3 trillion, but Democrats and Biden had to make concessions, bringing the investment amount down. The New York Times reports that the House of Representatives has said that it won’t vote on the bill unless the Senate passes a more ambitious $3.5 trillion social bill this fall.
