1GW solar project planned in Brazil

Brazil’s JKL Energy is planning a 1-gigawatt solar photovoltaic project in the state of Piaui, according to Renewables Now.

The solar project will span 500 hectares (1,235 acres) between the municipalities of Guaribas and Caracol.

The project is expected to enter energy auctions in September 2021.

Spurred by increased demand for electricity from renewable sources, the Brazilian solar market is expected to see an annual growth rate of 5.5 percent between 2020 and 2025, according to a report from Mordor Intelligence.

In 2018, Brazil was the largest solar market in South America, contributing roughly 42 percent of South America’s total solar energy production. This can be attributed to the country’s record high levels of solar radiation due to its latitude range.
