John Laing Group has agreed to acquire two regional telecommunications businesses in Germany, in order to create a single platform to invest in fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP).
John Laing Group said these businesses are each in the early stages of FTTP rollout programs, focusing on delivering connectivity to underserved suburban and rural communities in Germany. The company has committed up to €30 million ($35 million) to acquire control of these two businesses and to fund the initial investment in fiber roll-out programs over the next 12 months.
This rollout program also involves a significant greenfield construction component, which aligns with John Laing’s core greenfield expertise and capabilities.
Jurgen Hernichel, who has worked closely with John Laing on the transaction, has been appointed as CEO of the platform. Hernichel brings more than 25 years of telecommunications experience to the role.
