IREI hosts its 2022–2023 Editorial Advisory Board meeting for Institutional Investing in Infrastructure (i3) in November. The market for infrastructure investing, and all markets, have gone through significant changes since the previous board meeting a year ago.
Then, inflation was still being discussed as possibly transitory, and now it is higher than it has been since the 1980s’ double-digit rates. Supply chains were disrupted during COVID-19, and now more investment is being directed to onshoring and nearshoring industry and manufacturing, making shipping and distribution more resilient. But the biggest change might be in energy markets with rising prices, falling supplies and the pace of the energy transition from hydrocarbons being reexamined.
