The National League of Cities has released a new report detailing the top 10 issues facing cities across the United States.
The State of the Cities 2019 report identifies issues and challenges based on 153 speeches delivered by mayors across the country between January and April 2019.
While economic development remains the most-covered policy issue, a position it has held for the past six years, infrastructure has emerged as the second highest concern.
According to the report, 57 percent of mayoral speeches include significant coverage of infrastructure issues, including roads streets and signs, water sewer and waste infrastructure, pedestrian infrastructure, infrastructure funding, and public transit.
Other issues for concern were health and human services, energy and the environment, housing, public safety, demographics, education, and government and data technology.
