Glennmont Partners from Nuveen and Exus Renewables, an independent renewables asset management and development firm, have agreed to co-develop 800 megawatts of battery storage projects in southern Italy.
The deal will see Glennmont and Exus commence a series of stand-alone battery energy storage system (BESS) projects across the Puglia region of Italy. Each company will co-develop four projects with a capacity of 100 megawatts each, representing a portfolio of 400 megawatts of projects for each company.
An Italian developer specializing in battery storage systems will serve as the developer for all the projects. Construction on the first projects in the portfolio is planned to begin in the fourth quarter 2026.
“As Italy continues its renewable-energy transition, battery technology stands to play a hugely important role in supporting established clean-energy generators through its ability to manage intermittency issues and associated price fluctuations,” said
