A total of 32 new investment funds were launched during second quarter 2022, the lowest number of fund launchings since third quarter 2020 when 36 funds were launched. The new investment funds are seeking to raise an aggregate of approximately $19.7 billion, the lowest fundraising goal since third quarter 2019 when 38 funds were seeking $19.3 billion, and down from first quarter 2022’s fundraising goal of $24.9 billion.

In the first half of 2022, 79 new investment funds were launched totaling a fundraising target of $44.6 billion. Looking back at this time last year, the first half totals were 105 new investment funds launched seeking to raise $94.8 billion. The number of funds launched compared to last year’s halfway mark isn’t down by too many (26 funds), but the fundraising goal is significantly down with a difference of just over $50 billion.
