Survey sees pullback in real estate capital commitment plans
The 2017 Annual Investor Survey, conducted jointly by US-based Institutional Real Estate, Inc and Kingsley Associates, assessed institutional investors’ fund allocations, risk and return assumptions, expected capital flows, and real estate investment strategies for the coming year. The survey, in its 21st year, received 164 responses from investors representing $7.9 billion (€7.3 billion) in total assets. The 113 US respondents manage more than $299 billion (€275 billion) in real estate holdings, and the 51 foreign respondents manage $442 billion (€406 billion) in real estate holdings. For the benefit of being able to see trends in the data, much of the analysis and many of the themes throughout the report focus on feedback from the US respondents. This year’s feedback shows that investors’ satisfaction with real estate remains high, which reflects the asset class outperforming investors’ return expectations.
