Alternative investment fundraising has reached $148.4 billion, as of the end of September, according to Robert A. Stanger & Co. The sector was led by public non-traded business development companies (BDCs) with $34.5 billion in fundraising, followed by private placements with $30.5 billion, interval funds with $29.6 billion, closed-end tender offer funds with $19.3 billion and private BDCs with $13.3 billion.
Fundraising for public nontraded BDCs has increased by 30.7 percent, year-over-year, while public nontraded REIT capital formation decreased by 4.2 percent.
Blackstone led fundraising in the alternatives space with $21.1 billion, followed by Clliffwater with $12.8 billion, KKR with $12.2 billion, Ares Management Corp. with $11.8 billion and Blue Owl Capital with $10.8 billion.
