Sun Plus, a unit of The Sandi Group (TSG), has been commissioned to carry out construction of a 1,000-megawatt solar project in the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to several news reports.
The project, known as Kinshasa Solar City, will be carried out in two phases. Sun Plus has already commenced construction on the first phase, which involves the installation of several solar photovoltaic plants comprising 600 megawatts, according to Afrik21. The first phase of projects will be carried out as a specific form of public-private partnership in Menkao, a rural district located 45 miles from Congo’s capital, Kinshasa.
For both phases, the company is expected to invest $1 billion. The Sandi Group has reportedly signed a 25-year power-purchase agreement with Congo’s National Electricity Co.
