William Atwood named interim executive director of Illinois firefighters’ fund

William Atwood, the former executive director of the Illinois State Board of Investment (ISBI), has been named interim executive director of the Illinois Firefighters’ Pension Investment Fund.

He will act as CEO and chief investment officer for the $6.3 billion pension fund, serving until March 1, 2022, with two automatic one-year renewals afterward if a permanent executive director is not selected.

Atwood most recently served as vice president for the Illinois Finance Authority’s public infrastructure fund.

In his previous role as executive director of the ISBI, Atwood managed the restructuring of its investment portfolio, established an emerging manager program and expanded the portfolio’s exposure to alternative investments, according to Atwood’s LinkedIn profile.
