by Kali Persall

Vietnam has cut the ribbon on the Dau Tieng Solar Power Complex, the largest solar farm in Southeast Asia, capable of producing 688 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year.

The solar farm was delivered by a joint venture between the Vietnamese conglomerate Xuan Cau Co and Thai Industrial group B.Grimm Power Public Co., according to media sources.

The project spans 504 hectares (1,245.4 acres) and was constructed on the Dau Tieng Reservoir, the largest artificial lake in Vietnam, according to Energy Economic Times.

The $392.6 million complex consists of two solar farms, known as DT1 and DT2, and is capable of producing enough energy to power 320,000 homes, reports Renewables Now. It is expected to generate 10 percent of the solar energy in the country and prevent 595,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

The solar farm will supply local utility Electricity of Vietnam under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
