Vestas to supply turbines for 108MW wind park in Mexico

by Kali Persall

Wind turbine company Vestas has been selected to provide the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) order for the planned 108-megawatt Energía Sierra Juárez II wind park, to be located in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico. The project is the second phase of an existing 155-megawatt wind park.

A joint venture between IEnova, a Sempra Energy Company, and Saavi Energía placed the order, which also includes an Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement for the operation and maintenance of the wind park over the next 15 years. Vestas said the contract includes the supply, transport, installation and commissioning of 26 V150-4.2 megawatt turbines.

The energy produced by this project will be sold through a power-purchase agreement with the utility San Diego Gas & Electric.

Vestas expects to deliver the turbines in the third quarter of 2020, and commissioning is planned for the second quarter of 2021.
