USDOT announces $20.3m in grants for 23 transportation projects

by Kali Persall

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has announced $20.3 million in grants to help improve transportation technology across the United States.

Twenty-five projects in 23 states will receive funding under FTA’s Integrated Mobility Innovation (IMI) program, which supports projects that use innovative technologies and processes to improve access to public transportation, increase public transportation efficiency, and enhance the overall rider experience, according to the FTA.

The projects were selected following a Notice of Funding Opportunity, issued by the FTA in summer of 2019. FTA received 104 eligible project proposals totaling $107 million.

“These $20.3 million in federal grants will help communities nationwide enhance their transportation systems to make it easier for people to use transit, especially older adults and people with disabilities,” said Elaine Chao, U.S. transportation secretary.
