University of Wisconsin’s endowment yields 10.5% return for fiscal year

The University of Wisconsin’s (UW) endowment portfolio, valued at $3.84 billion, generated a return of 10.5 percent for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, roughly in line with its 10.6 percent policy benchmark.

Over the past three, five and 10 years, the endowment has yielded annualized net returns of 8.3 percent, 6.2 percent and 6.9 percent, respectively, compared with those time periods’ respective benchmarks of 9.1 percent, 7.4 percent and 7.6 percent.

The 10.5 percent return comes after a 15.1 percent loss in fiscal year 2022 and a 30.6 percent gain in fiscal year 2021.

As of Dec. 31, 2022, 11.9 percent of UW’s endowment was allocated toward real estate.
