Universal green lease clauses in place by the end of the decade

Green lease clauses will be universally implemented in the real estate industry before the end of this decade, according to a new report published by Savills Investment Management.

So-called green clauses are drawn up to ensure that building owners and occupiers adhere to specific environmental standards during occupation. This includes sharing emissions data when attempting to meet carbon reduction targets.

The report, based on a survey of 111 institutional investors involved in commercial real estate across EMEA, North America and APAC, says that 73 percent of institutional investors see green lease clauses being universally implemented between tenants and rea
