Uniper and E.ON have plans to partner with Canada's EverWind to purchase a total of 1 million tonnes of green ammonia per year in a push to veer away from Russian energy and accelerate the rollout of green hydrogen.
According to Reuters, the companies both signed respective agreements during a visit to Canada by Olaf Scholz, Germany’s chancellor, and Robert Habeck, economy minister. They were accompanied by the CEOs of Volkswagen, Uniper and Siemens Energy.
“This is an important step not only to strengthen our bilateral economic relations, but also for a future-oriented and sustainable energy supply,” said Scholz.
The ammonia will come from EverWind's planned Point Tupper facility in Nova Scotia, which is expected to start commercial operation in early 2025.
