The U.S. House of Representatives has sent a $1.5 trillion infrastructure bill to the Senate in a 233 to 188 vote taken on Wednesday.
The bill, known as the “Moving Forward Act” (H.R. 2), includes a five-year, nearly $500 billion transportation reauthorization known as the INVEST in America Act, that would funnel billions of dollars into the California Bay Area to expand the transportation network, repair aging roadways and transit systems, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and harness the region's tech capabilities to improve nationwide mobility, according to a statement by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
“It's critical that this bill be passed,” said chair Scott Haggerty, an Alameda County supervisor who has served as an MTC Commissioner since 2000. “We appreciate congressional leadership for stepping up with a bold plan to build infrastructure, generate jobs, strengthen our communities and improve our environment.”
