U.S. government and Westinghouse Electric Company strike historic $80b nuclear energy deal

by Kali Arevalo

The U.S. government has entered into a partnership with nuclear powerhouse Westinghouse Electric Co. and its owners, Cameco Corp. and Brookfield Asset Management, to accelerate the deployment of nuclear power in the United States.

At least $80 billion of new reactors will be constructed across the country using Westinghouse’s nuclear reactor technology as part of an effort to reinvigorate the nuclear power industrial base. Once constructed, the reactors will generate reliable and secure power, including for significant data center and compute capacity that will drive America’s growth in artificial intelligence (AI).

This historic agreement is in accordance with President Trump’s May 23 executive orders promoting the deployment of nuclear technologies to maintain global leadership in nuclear power development and AI.
