U.K. named No. 1 location for residential investment post-Brexit

by Marek Handzel

The United Kingdom has been named the No. 1 location for residential investment during the next 12 months, according to a survey of investors, developers and asset managers.

Legal giant DLA Piper has surveyed more than 500 real estate professionals who control more than $3 billion (€2.5 billion) worth of real estate assets across Europe, China and the United States, and found 33 percent of respondents favor the United Kingdom post-Brexit as the most attractive residential market in 2021, followed by France (28 percent), Germany (25 percent), Spain (24 percent) and Italy (18 percent).

Overall, nearly three-quarters of the survey’s respondents plan to invest in European residential assets during the next 12 months. Of these, nearly one-third expect to invest more in 2021 compared to 2020, on average increasing assets by nearly 30 percent. When investing, the majority (88 percent) will choose to enter new countries in partnership with a local developer or manager.
