U.K. government launches $898b infra investment plan

by Kali Persall

The U.K. government has unveiled what it calls “the most ambitious program of infrastructure investment on record,” which calls for £650 billion ($898 billion) of private and public investments in infrastructure projects over the next decade.

The plan includes £254 million ($351 million) for public economic infrastructure, £208 million ($287 million) of private investment across all sectors, £97 million ($134 million) for regulated utilities, and £89 billion ($123 billion) of new investments in social infrastructure such as major rebuilding projects at schools and colleges.

The Infrastructure and Projects Authority estimates that more than 425,000 individuals will be required, on an average annual basis, across 2021–2022 to 2024–2025 to deliver a planned investment of £200 billion ($276 billion).

The government says the investment program will support 425,000 jobs a year.
