The government of the United Kingdom has plans to invest £37 million ($46 million) to transform electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
The announcement was made on the one-year anniversary of Road to Zero strategy, which calls for enhancing road infrastructure and incentivizing widespread adoption of zero-emission vehicles, according to the government.
Funding will be spread out over 12 separate projects dedicated to creating wireless charging technologies, giving future vehicles the freedom to charge without using a cable.
Other innovations could include solar-powered forecourts and underground charging systems, installing charge points in car parks for overnight charging, and making high-speed internet more available to allow drivers to access information on charging progress and parking spaces.
The initial three-month feasibility studies have been completed, and successful projects are moving onto the next stage of development.
