U.K. built half of Europe’s offshore wind power in 2017

The United Kingdom generated more new offshore wind energy than any other country in Europe last year, installing 1.7 gigawatts worth of new wind farms, according to WindEurope. Germany followed with, adding 1.3 gigawatts.

As a whole Europe installed 3.1 gigawatts of new offshore wind, taking total capacity to 15.8 gigawatts, an increase of 25 percent in just one year.

13 new offshore wind farms were completed, including the world’s first floating offshore wind farm, Hywind Scotland.

Europe now has over 4,000 offshore wind turbines operating across 11 countries, making a total of 15.8 gigawatts of installed and grid-connected capacity.
