On April 27, 2018, the Tunisian government will launch an international tender for the construction of $1 billion of solar and wind renewable projects to be operational in five years.
The first tenders of this round will be split as follows:

The government also announced a 200-megawatt solar power project at Tataouine, which will be commissioned as a part of the Desert Development Project announced last month, aiming to develop 5,000 hectares of the Tunisian desert.
The head of government, Youssef Chahed, stated that the government aims to produce 1 gigawatt of electricity from solar and wind, while also investing approximately 12 billion Tunisian dinars ($4.88 billion) in electricity and other energy projects through to 2020 with a 4.7 gigawatts renewable energy target by 2030.
