by Kali Persall

The Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS) of the state of Illinois has disclosed $450 million in commitments on behalf of its $8.1 billion real assets portfolio.

Illinois TRS committed up to $250 million to a fund managed by Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners and up to $200 million to a fund managed by Macquarie Infrastructure Partners.

The commitment to Stonepeak represents a new relationship for Illinois TRS, while the Macquarie investment builds on an existing relationship with the manager, which currently administers $48.1 million in assets for the retirement system.

Illinois TRS also disclosed that its assets experienced a $3 billion rebound during the April-to-June quarter of fiscal year 2020, hitting $51.6 billion. The system began the 2020 calendar year with $54.2 billion in assets. Due to the ongoing effects from the coronavirus pandemic, assets dropped to $48.5 billion at the end of March, and then rebounded by 6.4 percent as of June 30.
